Freedom & Civil Liberties

Martin Luther King Jr

Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.

The Australian Sovereignty Party will restore our liberty and freedoms which have incrementally been stripped away from us, as a growing government and bureaucracy take further control over our personal affairs, and as all levels of government have been stretching out their hands to regulate and control every facet of our lives.

Our philosophy is to EDUCATE, NOT REGULATE:

  • All Australian citizens have the God-given Common Law right to self-defence; to protect and defend themselves, their families, and their house if subject to trespass and uninvited, unlawful entry. Never will a thief be able to press charges on the household they are breaking into. Furthermore, no Police authority shall ever enter a house without a lawful warrant issued by a court of competent jurisdiction. If they are asked to leave at any point by the owner of the property, they must leave immediately.
  • As statistics show from around the world, increasing surveillance of society does not reduce crime. We will restrict the use of CCTV cameras in public areas, and rather provide more funding for police, and relieve them of their revenue raising tasks to free them up to be on the streets, serving and protecting the public like they should be doing. Such “Big Brother” systems, and also the technology involved with tracking and secretly listening in to the conversations of every individual through their mobile phones will be eradicated.
  • Under an ASP stewardship, there will be no roads tolls, and people will have free and unrestricted right of travel. Revenue raising Speeding and Red Light cameras will also be done away with.
  • We believe in the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of thought and opinion, freedom to publish those opinions, freedom of association, and freedom of the press. If an individual or group holds to a particular view, philosophy, opinion, way of life or religion that is disagreeable or offensive to any other person/ group, they are still free to express that view and opinion - provided that they are law abiding and peaceful, and are not calling for violence, or violating another person's rights under the law.

Commentaries on the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Australia

The truth is the supreme absolute and uncontrollable authority remains with the people.
  • It is time that Australians, and any foreigners residing here, stop robbing other people of their freedoms just because you do not like what they are saying and find it offensive. A free society can judge for itself whether people are speaking so-called “hate speech”, but we should not impose laws under the guise of ‘political correctness’ to ever restrict a person's right to express themselves peacefully.
  • We believe in a parent's right to discipline their children as appropriate. We do however highly recommend and encourage that any such discipline be conducted in a loving manner, with no malice or anger, but out of a genuine desire to teach the child.

Friedrich Nietzsche

Freedom is the will to be responsible to ourselves.
  • Whilst re-educating the public concerning their constitutional rights, we will also promote responsibility. The public need and want to be able to live their lives without the federal, state and local governments dictating to them what they can and cannot do in every facet of their lives. ASP will remove most of the ridiculous, nanny state laws and regulations that burden the population, and indeed even cause people to no longer be responsible citizens as they now expect the government to take care of everything in their daily lives.
  • Rural property owners will have far more freedom to build their own dams and remove trees (as appropriate), graze their animals, and conduct their own back burning operations (informing the relevant fire authority) all without the repressive, red tape restrictions imposed by authoritarian local councils and governments. Whilst not over-regulating people, an ASP government will however provide education to empower property owners to be better, more naturally based stewards of the land.
  • Part of what it means to be free is also financial freedom, in not being in bondage and servitude to the banks. You will see that that the outcomes of our economic and taxation policy will lead to a much diminished reliance upon borrowing money, as prosperity will abound like never before, and there will be full employment for all.

Benjamin Franklin

Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.
